The Sauzier Waterfall is near Port Glaud on the west coast of Mahé, a few minutes from the sea and yet in a completely different world: fresh water, shade, rocks and the sound of falling water instead of waves. For many guests it is the surprise of the day, because they expected beaches and not a swim in the forest.
The path
From the village it is a short walk, not a hike, but not a stroll in sandals either: the path is damp in places and the stones are slippery. Sturdy shoes are worth more than anything else here. When you reach the top you stand before a pool into which the waterfall drops, surrounded by granite and greenery.
Swimming
You can go in, and many do. The water is cool, noticeably cooler than the sea, and that is the appeal after a morning in the sun. The pool is not deep, the bottom is rocky. If you just want to look, you sit on one of the rocks beside it.
Entry
Access is on private land, so a small entry fee is charged: 50 rupees from age 12, 25 rupees from age 6 to 11, cash on site. This is not included in the tour price, it is about three euros. The amounts may change, your guide usually knows what applies at the moment.
How long to stay
Half an hour is enough for looking and taking photos, an hour if you want to swim. In the day planner you can choose both and see right away what it means for the rest of the day.
How to get there
By rental car along the west coast road to Port Glaud, by bus to the village, or with us. On the island tour and on the beach tour the waterfall is on the way.
Nearby
Port Launay and its bay are a few minutes away, the tea factory and Mission Lodge are up on the Sans Souci Road.
