Carana Beach is in the north of Mahé, beyond Glacis, and is one of the small coves you would hardly notice from the road. Granite rocks frame a short stretch of sand, palms hang over the water, and in the late afternoon the sun is positioned so that almost every photo turns out great.
Why we advise against swimming
The cove opens towards the north and has no reef in front of it. A current forms between the rocks that pulls outward, and when there is a swell the surf breaks hard onto the sand. This stop is therefore listed explicitly in the day plan as a photo stop: ten minutes, for viewing and photographing. We prefer to tell you this beforehand rather than afterwards.
What you get instead
Light. The rocks, the green and the turquoise lie so close together here, just as you imagine the Seychelles to be, and all within a few metres. If you want to take one photo during the day that you will remember, take it here.
How to get there
Via the coastal road north of Beau Vallon, the descent to the beach is short but steep. We stop here on our island tour and on the beach tour.
Close by
Beau Vallon is just under a quarter hour south and is the beach where you can then swim. Sunset Beach is in between.
