Your Private Tour Guide in the Seychelles

Licensed, local and private: explore Mahé with a Seychellois family of guides, at your own pace and exactly to your taste.

Planning a holiday in the Seychelles and looking for the best way to explore? With a private tour guide in the Seychelles you see our island through local eyes, at your own pace and without strangers in the car. We are Island Tour Seychelles, a Seychellois family business on Mahé since 2020. Our team is Sheena, Kevin, Yannick, Keeto and Chris as guides, with Karl looking after the website and bookings. We would love to show you the real beauty of Mahé.

Why book a private tour guide in the Seychelles with us

Officially licensed and certified

We are licensed by the Government of the Seychelles and certified by the Seychelles Tourism Board after thorough training. Unlike self declared guides, our tours meet official standards for safety, quality and cultural authenticity. Every guide in our team holds an official tour guide certificate, and our founder is the only licensed female tour guide in the Seychelles.

A local family, not a big company

When you book with us, you book with a Seychellois family that knows every quiet corner, every scenic trail and every historic site of Mahé. We do not just guide you. We share our home with you.

Private tours, tailored to you

Our tours are private and flexible. Only you, as a couple, family or group, are in the vehicle, never other travellers added along the way. The only exception is the Night Tour, which can run in small groups. Everything else is exclusively yours: your day, your vehicle, your guide.

What you can experience with your private guide

Island tours on Mahé

Explore Mahé on a private full day or half day tour. The Mahé Island Tour takes you to places such as Mission Lodge, the market in Victoria, the tea factory and the most beautiful viewpoints of the island. Looking for something quieter? We know spots you will not find on any map. Prefer the capital on foot? The Victoria City Tour shows you our small, lively town up close.

Guided hikes and nature walks

If nature calls, let us go on an adventure. We guide you along rainforest trails such as Copolia, Morne Blanc, Salazie and Trois Frères, as well as on the Anse Major, Rockpool and Ros Lepa hikes. You discover rare endemic plants, hear the stories of this land and breathe the fresh mountain air.

Beach days

On the Beach Tour we visit the most beautiful beaches of Mahé, with time for swimming, snorkelling and simply doing nothing.

A private guide who tells the story of Mahé

Mahé covers 157.3 km² and is home to most of the life of the Seychelles. It is a mountainous granite island whose slopes drop straight into the ocean. Along the way the landscape changes quickly: forested ridges, inhabited valleys, quiet bays and Creole villages.

Your guide brings its history to life. Mahé was first sighted by the British in 1609, then almost forgotten by Europeans until the expedition of Lazare Picault in 1742. On 1 November 1756 a French frigate landed and a Stone of Possession was laid in the name of the King of France. It is the oldest monument of the Seychelles and is kept today in the National Museum in Victoria. The archipelago is named after Jean Moreau de Séchelles, finance minister under Louis XV, while the main island is named after Bertrand François Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Mahé stayed French until 1812, then became a British colony until independence in 1976. This mixed history still shows in the language, the food, the architecture and the place names.

Nature found nowhere else

The Seychelles are the only granite islands in the middle of an ocean, and millions of years of isolation created an extraordinary biodiversity. On Mahé grow plants that exist nowhere else: the critically endangered jellyfish tree, Medusagyne oppositifolia, with fewer than 30 individuals left on a few peaks, the endemic pitcher plant Nepenthes pervillei and many endemic orchids. Much of this can be seen in the Morne Seychellois National Park. If you like, we include a nature stop and introduce you to this unique flora.

Special events in paradise

Looking for something extraordinary? We also help to organise beach weddings with a Creole touch, romantic engagements, birthdays and private celebrations. With local Creole food, music, drinks and beautiful decorations we turn your dreams into memories.

Free pick up and easy communication

Wherever you stay on Mahé, we pick you up and bring you back at no extra cost: hotel, guesthouse, airport, Victoria port, cruise terminal, Eden Island or a friend's home. Our guides speak English and French, and Sheena also speaks a bit of German, so there is hardly any language barrier, just clear communication, local knowledge and real cultural immersion.
