The Botanical Garden sits on the southern edge of Victoria, on Mont Fleuri Road, a ten minute walk from the market. Five hectares of shade, a path in a large loop, and by the end you know roughly what grows on these islands.
What you will see
Just behind the entrance stands a group of Coco de Mer palms, the nut that exists only on the Seychelles. Further along is an orchid house, a small spice garden with cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, and above it all old trees where flying foxes hang in the afternoon and call out. They are not an attraction someone has set up: they live there.
The giant tortoises
Aldabra giant tortoises live in an enclosure on the slope, some of them for decades. You can touch them, they like being stroked on the neck best of all. For children this is usually the part they remember later.
Entry and time
Entry costs 250 rupees per person, cash on site, and is not included in any of our tour prices. One hour is enough to see everything; if you take photos, you might stay for an hour and a half. The morning is more pleasant than midday, shade or not.
How to get there
On foot from Victoria, by bus heading south or with us. On our city tour the garden is the quiet part; on the island tour it is possible to fit in if you wish and spend less time elsewhere. Tell your guide, he plans the day with you.
Nearby
The market and town centre are ten minutes to the north, Eden Island ten minutes to the east, and the road up Sans Souci to Mission Lodge begins at the edge of town.
